Focus of the Month for July
OM / Sirsasana
For July philosophically we will focus on Om (AUM). What is OM? Where is it from? Why do we always start and end each class with it? Why does it feel so good to chant this sound? This topic goes back-- way back to the beginning of everything. In the moment of the beginning of all of creation (the big bang) there was out of the stillness between cycles of death and birth this sound representative of all of everything - Ishvara. Join us as we delve deeply into the sound we chant together each class, but may take for granted, and uncover the grand significance of this universal mantra. The teachers at Jaya will faithfully help lead you through this fascinating topic.
Physically sirsasana (headstand). Basic level classes will deal with preparing for headstand - strengthening and opening the shoulders and neck so when you get to the intermediate practice you are ready to actually start bringing weight onto your heads. In intermediate classes work will be focused on actually getting up and taking weight on to the crown chakra. Finally, open level class work will be on variations. If you do not have a technically informed headstand we encourage you to revisit the basic / intermediate classes so you can get all the details needed to do the pose in a safe and clear way.
Let us meditate on OM the imperishable, the
beginning of prayer.
For as the earth comes from the waters, plants from
earth, and man from plants, so man is speech, and
speech is OM.
