Focus of the Month for February
Heart Opening and Love Your Planet
It was amazing to watch the big beautiful choices many of you made in your practice in January, within our New Year focus of the month, "Take a Fresh Start and Find Your Center." It's important to remember the concept of taking a new start in every month of 2008, especially given it is an election year. In the interest of moving forward with the intelligence of the days before, let's focus our bodies on heart center opening. Maybe you need a few good shoulder openers to get to your heart. Maybe a restorative back bend will do the trick, or just your garden variety back bending practice. We can cover a lot of ground with this subject. Come and see what direction your teachers will take with it in each class - and please feel free to make a request or two from your heart of course.
Again we will have a twofold focus of the month as we declare February LOVE YOUR PLANET month at Jaya Yoga Center. As a first step in that direction, we will keep our planet's landfills a little less full by declining to sell plastic (read: oil) water bottles at the studio. We realize that this might not be a popular choice, but we accept the "inconvenient truth," if you will, that by selling disposable bottles we are abetting harm to our planet. Even if these plastic bottles get recycled still something like 1,000,000 of them end up in landfill each day. I heard on the radio not too long ago that a hair dryer takes about 1,000 years to biodegrade - that is a long time. With so many hair dryers and water bottles littering the planet where will we put the kids' swing sets?
So bring your canteens to class and feel good about buying one less bottle! And think about ways you can love your planet through your yoga practice.
